Spatial Planning and Setting
The plan organises guest arrival through a central reception space that leads to a curved lounge and dining area. Large openings connect the interior to timber decks and a fire circle set on an elevated platform. Circulation is simple and legible with clear routes to guest suites and shared amenities. The siting allows panoramic outlooks across fynbos while maintaining privacy for quiet areas.
Indigenous Planting and Ecological Resilience
The material palette combines stone timber thatch and smooth plaster. Robust finishes suit lodge use and weather conditions on the Garden Route. Deep roof overhangs and screened verandas manage sun and rain and support natural ventilation. Detailing is practical with expressed timber structure and masonry fireplaces that anchor the main rooms. The result is a clear example of Garden Route lodge architecture set in South Africa.
